TopDogs Oy ("we", "us", or "our") is a Finnish software company based in Helsinki. This privacy policy describes how we handle information in connection with our macOS applications TopTrack and Shroud, as well as our website at topdogs.one.
We built our apps with a simple principle: your data belongs to you. We do not operate servers, collect analytics, or track usage. Your data stays on your Mac, or — where an app offers optional sync or backup — in an account that belongs to you, never to us.
We do not collect any personal data. Our apps do not require accounts, do not phone home, and do not transmit any information to us. We have no servers that receive data from our apps.
Specifically, we do not collect:
TopTrack is a time-tracking application. All time entries, projects, clients, and settings are stored locally on your Mac using the app's local database. No data is sent to TopDogs.
TopTrack offers optional integration with the following third-party services:
If you choose to enable sync, TopTrack communicates directly with the chosen service's API using credentials you provide. Your API keys are stored securely in Apple Keychain on your Mac. When sync is active, your time entries and project data are sent to and received from the third-party service's servers according to their privacy policies.
Sync is entirely optional. TopTrack works fully offline without connecting to any external service. You can enable or disable sync at any time without losing your local data.
Shroud is an encrypted note-taking application. Notes are encrypted on your Mac with AES-256-GCM, using a key derived from a master password you choose. The password itself is never stored — only a hash of it, held in the Apple Keychain on that device and explicitly excluded from Keychain iCloud sync.
If you are signed into iCloud and have not turned backup off, Shroud stores an encrypted copy of your vault in your own private CloudKit database, inside your Apple Account. This is storage you control; TopDogs Oy has no access to it and receives no copy.
The stored payload is ciphertext. Your master password and the encryption key derived from it are never transmitted, which means the backup cannot be decrypted by TopDogs Oy, by Apple, or by anyone who does not know your password. Backup can be disabled in the app's settings, and your existing iCloud copy deleted, at any time.
Shroud offers an optional distress password. If you set one and then enter it at the unlock screen, the app permanently deletes your notes, the local backup, and the encrypted iCloud copy. This is irreversible. We hold no copy of any of it and cannot restore it. The feature is off unless you deliberately enable it.
We do not have access to your master password, your distress password, or your encryption key. If you forget your master password, we cannot recover your notes. There is no reset mechanism and no back door.
Our website at topdogs.one is a static site. We do not use cookies, analytics services, tracking pixels, or any form of visitor monitoring. We do not collect any information about visitors to our website.
Beyond the optional integrations listed above for TopTrack, our apps do not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. We do not use third-party SDKs that collect user data.
Our apps are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
App data is stored locally on your Mac. API credentials (for optional third-party sync in TopTrack) and Shroud's password hashes and salt are stored in the Apple Keychain, which provides hardware-backed encryption; Shroud marks its Keychain items as non-synchronising, so they stay on the one device.
The one exception to local-only storage is Shroud's optional iCloud backup, described above, which places an encrypted copy of your vault in your own Apple Account. We recommend keeping your macOS installation up to date for the best security.
Since we do not collect or store any of your data, there is nothing for us to provide, modify, or delete. Your data lives entirely on your Mac and is under your full control. You can delete all app data at any time by removing the applications.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
This privacy policy is governed by the laws of Finland and applicable European Union regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
